The biggest mistake you can make is to create content for your website with no plan. Creating a strategic plan is the foundation to making your content significant, meaningful, and important to potential customers. Every piece of content you create needs to have a purpose, regardless of if it’s on your website, social media, blog or other place in your web presence. Your content helps drive conversions when it resonates with your audience in a meaningful way.
Your blog helps build your reputation by showing your expertise and sharing information. Use categories and tags to strategically organize blogs as high value archives for people who visit website so visitors can find information by categories that interest them. Having too many or too little defeats the purpose. It’s better to have a small number of tags that are highly relevant to your audience.
When deciding how to organize your blog, a good place to start is look at what makes you money. Align categories and tags to products you’re selling to drive visitors to your services, products and offers in a strategic way.
Publishing new content regularly is critical. Search engines reward consistency. Publishing in bursts doesn’t help your SEO. Every time you publish, you also add a new URL to your site that is searchable to website traffic. It’s an opportunity to expand your footprint. Publishing new content each week is 52 new opportunities a year to be found online a year.

if you don’t want to publish your personal phone number on your website, use a service like Google Voice or Ring Central to forward calls to your phone. Include easy ways for people to connect with you. Adding elements like a thank you page for all your forms lets visitors know they’ve successfully connected and allows you to tell them the next steps. Including a booking link gives potential clients a fast, easy way to get started in the process to work with you.
Forms are a great tool to use on websites to gather information and connect with visitors. Machforms, gravityforms, wpforms are options to make form implementation on your website easy and versatile. Be sure your forms direct to landing pages that include information about next steps.
Templates are great tools for emails and ongoing client communications. When you send repetitive emails to clients, creating templates in your email platform can ensure you always include the important information while saving you time.
Lead Generation
Your lead magnet is a great way to offer your audience something they need in exchange for the opportunity to stay in touch with you. Keep it manageable – no need to give them heavy content. Be sure that your lead magnet addresses a common or key problem that your target audience often has.
Nurturing
It’s critical to nurture the relationship once it has begun! After someone has signed up for your lead magnet, have a mechanism in place to automatically send them a brief email campaign centered around the lead magnet they signed up for. Don’t forget to also send these folks more freebies in the future to keep them engaged and show them additional problems you can help solve.
Even chatbots on websites can help to nurture the beginning steps of a relationship by addressing common questions people have when visiting websites.
Hacks
- WordPress pages can be password protected. This can be useful if you are offering page access to exclusive clients.
- Zapier and If This Then That are resources that allow application integration that triggers automated actions that can make social media posting and other business operations easier.
- If adding videos to your website, you can use native services in YouTube or Rev.com for easy transcription raw material.
